The ten patterns, with examples from Octopus Energy's homepage (octopus.energy) as of November 2026 (we checked on 4 November). Big sites change often, so look for yourself. We're not connected to Octopus Energy; we just think it's a good homepage. 1. One box to start. Octopus asks for one thing first: your postcode, with a "Get a quote" button. Everything else comes later. Yours: what's the one thing you need to get started (a postcode, a date, the job)? 2. Say what you are in one line. Octopus's headline is "Join the UK's most popular energy supplier". Yours: what you do and where, in eight words or fewer. Only claim what you can prove. 3. Proof with a number, and where it's from. Octopus shows its Trustpilot rating and review count: 4.8 from 913,657 reviews on the day we checked. Yours: your real review score and count, and the site they're on. 4. Outside proof. Octopus shows that it's a Which? Recommended Provider, "9 years running". Yours: an accreditation, trade body or award you actually hold, with the year. 5. A separate door for each kind of customer. Octopus has a line for businesses: "Looking to switch your business? Get a quote". Monzo (monzo.com) does the same with Personal and Business at the top of its homepage. Yours: if homeowners and businesses (or landlords, or trade buyers) want different things, give each their own way in. 6. What you sell, in a few tiles. Octopus shows four: Energy, Heat pumps, Solar & batteries, and Electric vehicles & chargers. Yours: your main services, four to six at most, each linking to its own page.
