Specify it by looking at it.
This is a real-time 12 mm sample rendered in your browser. Change the glass, the finish, the refractive index and the surface, and watch how the stripes behind it bend, blur and colour.
Glass, in five terms.
- Toughened
- Heated to about 620 °C and cooled fast so the surface is in compression. Four to five times stronger than float, and it breaks into small blunt pieces.EN 12150
- Laminated
- Two or more panes bonded with an interlayer that holds the glass in place when it breaks. Used anywhere glass is overhead or holds people back.EN 14449
- Low-iron
- Float glass with most of the iron oxide taken out, so the green tint on the edge disappears and colours behind it stay true.VLT up to 91%
- Fluted
- Glass rolled with a ribbed profile. It lets light through and blurs what is behind it into soft vertical bands, without frosting.Ribs 8 to 25 mm
- Dichroic
- A thin multi-layer coating that splits light, so the glass reflects one colour and transmits another, and both shift as you walk past.Interference coating
